about

'A Word Not His' is the 49th single from my New Single Every Week For A Year Project. Not many people know that I write poetry every day because I very rarely show it to anyone or talk about it. I suppose I view it as a type of exercise for my songwriting but I really enjoy doing it and particularly appreciate that there isn't as much pressure to present it to the world as my songs and music have.
I decided to share a poem so it would be a part of this video journal of my year since poetry is such a big piece of my daily life.
Thanks for following and I'll see you next week.
I can't believe the year is almost done!!

lyrics

A Word Not His

To need is a chorus of birds
The turning sky reveals in their cackles.
Theirs is the eyes, marrow, and sinew gust
Mapping the gulf ruddy puff breath of brain
Petaled between evening's dust of strings
Cast to rim the circle of a story
Morning brought athroned
Rose red fingers.

Great golden cathedrals
Parished into minds paused
At the half moon crescent
A mouth leans trembling between;
The ration of a light pillared shim
And the meaning of a ritual cast prostrate.

Paradise went with the words
Through the canyons of ears and hair
Just sitting there
Because youth is a language,
A penance swallowed whole
Needing only the shimmer of an eye
To recover unscathed,
Unpunctuated, retimbred.

Ruddy cheeked, a smile wrecks some other
Outing leaned across sugar bowls
Or the flapping of mouths unwinding into loud
Crowded prowls of eyes asking questions
Above glassed wrists
About blue as the color of the work you left
Worn into the back side of the book binding
Of the book you kept
In your pocket at all times
And this time
You finished the book,
Tore out the last page,
Wove that into a kind of rope
And rounded it into a ring you gave some friend
Who knew nothing of a word not his.
