about

This is a demo that was sung live for my New Single Every Week For A Year Project's 47th week.
The entire album is being worked out now with some amazing folks down in Nashville. I'm very excited to finish and share it with you soon.

lyrics

It was the end of the man, it was the age of the ads,
You couldn't see it but you’d get what you need.
Yeah you could think what you want
And then the cameras would flaunt
And show you everything your parents had dreamed.
And then the older ones gloated, showed up to
Boldly control it, saying look what my baby can be.
And then from deep in their toys the children lifted their voices
Saying mom and dad won’t listen to me.

And then the gaggles of boys rolled up to drool at the choices
As they whistled through the gaps in their teeth.
As all the innocent girls were forced to look at the world
Thinking they’d never have a moment of peace.
And so they spit at the rolls and she flipped up her nose
Swearing she’d never be what anyone thinks.
And then she clipped off her hair, telling whoever would have it
That she wanted what she had at her feet

Yeah, she was wishing to be washed away
And we were with her there and it was all shameful
Not to want to be man, Oh Man,
We saw it coming but we couldn’t do a damn thing
No, it was a stout and steady wind.

All until the river of choices and the mirror of voices
Turned it back and told us how it would be.
They said a pale skinned man with a gun in his pants
Didn’t belong anywhere that we speak.
But then the good old boys started a cynical chorus
That you could have it but never could lead.
And then they reached in their trousers
And pulled back as they shouted
That I’d like to see you take it from me!

And in a moment we went back to skin.
Oh, we really didn't learn from the terrors of our kin.
No, we didn’t change a thing.
Oh, this could be Babel or Berlin or Bethlehem.
Look at what we’ve done to ourselves again...
